Snowdonia is a biome created in the Cymru Expansion based on a mountainous region in Wales (the mod creator's home country) of the same name. Vast, beautiful, and largely barren, Snowdonia was built as an homage to this natural scene and environment that is often overlooked.
Generation[]
When Snowdonia was being created, the plan for this biome was to add everything that is generally defined as "Welsh" or symbolizes Wales as a country, even such things as stereotypes and jokes about it. This can be seen in the variety of odd Welsh items that can be obtained and crafted.
In terms of terrain generation, it's a vastly scaled biome with deep waters and very high mountains, creating some incredible vistas. Similar to the real place, it has a rich dark green foliage and deep blue water color that makes even the standard vanilla trees seem to burst with life. Oak and Birch trees are native species to Wales (the creator is even from a village called Birchgrove), and so can be seen clinging to the cliff-sides and sprawling in the low coastal regions.
Towering on the peaks of the mountains, the Mighty Ash Trees stand tall on their native soil. As old and ancient trees, they are rather sparse, but they make up for it in their sublime nature. Some local flora have climbed their way to flourish on top of the high mountains, such as the Daffodil and Leek. These are your reward for scaling these stark heights.
Gold ore is more abundant in this region, as Wales used to have gold mines that unearthed tons of the stuff. "Welsh Gold" was used by British Royalty for years. Slate is also one of the most commonly mined things in the country, so Slate was added that can only be found within the earth of Snowdonia.
One of the jokes about Wales is their "affiliation" with sheep as they are a large producer of lamb, so expect to find sheep grazing upon the gravity-defying peaks and low valley floors.
Mystic elements are kept hidden here from the outside world, locked away in Wizard Towers and Slate Dungeons that hold the Heart of Y Ddraig Goch.
